The UK’s first orbital space launch has moved one step closer to take-off as Cornwall Airport Newquay and Spaceport Cornwall have received the UK’s first ever spaceport licence.
This week Cornwall Airport Newquay has announced another enhancement to its route network with the confirmation that Eastern Airways will launch a new daily service between the Cornish gateway and East Midlands. The regional carrier will add over 1,000 weekly seats to the airport’s schedule next year.
Continuing to witness a significant expansion of its route network, Cornwall Airport Newquay (NQY) has today announced that Ryanair will launch three new connections during next year’s summer schedule. Set to commence on 23 April 2023, the Irish ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) will connect the Cornish gateway to Dublin, London Stansted, and Malaga.
Cornwall Airport Newquay has announced Aer Lingus Regional, will commence a new link to Belfast City from Summer 2023, adding nearly 14,000 seats during the peak season. Launching a four-times weekly service, the Irish carrier will start operations from 3 April 2023.
Cornwall Airport Newquay (CAN) sees the return of flybe as the airport continues to grow its route network. Commencing on 30 October, the regional airline will launch twice daily (Monday to Friday) flights to London Heathrow (daily service at weekends), while also adding a daily link to Manchester.
Eastern Airways have increased capacity on one of their main routes from London Gatwick to Cornwall Airport Newquay over the busy summer holiday period. A recent study undertaken by Eastern Airways show that the Cornwall Airport Newquay – London Gatwick route is used by almost 60% of passengers for either leisure or visiting friends and family purposes. Eastern Airways currently offers a popular twice daily service, but have now added a third rotation on Monday, Thursday and Friday due to demand.

Eastern Airways, the UK’s independent regional airline, celebrated its inaugural Cornwall Newquay – London Gatwick route today (15 December). The flight was operated with one of Eastern’s ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft, fuelled with sustainable aviation fuel* (SAF) supplied by Air bp. The airline underlined its commitment to reduce carbon emissions, backing calls for closer collaborative work between industry and government to lower the cost and widen availability of SAF.
