The start of the festival season kicks off with a week and a half of the very best in international cinema. Famed for exploring new ideas, the Edinburgh Film Festival has a wide ranging programme featuring documentaries, shorts and experiential cinema.

July

13th -22nd July – Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival

In July, the city hosts 170 gigs across 13 venues in 10 days of Jazz and Blues. The festival plays host to the best of jazz and blues from around the world, from young Scottish talent to musical legends. 2018 marks the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival’s 40th Anniversary, and the occasion is being marked with a gala concert and exhibition.

26th July – 26th August – Edinburgh Art Festival

A whole month of visual art can be discovered throughout July and August at the Edinburgh Art Festival. With over 40 exhibitions each year, the festival is the UK’s largest annual  celebration of visual art. Exhibits include mediums such as moving image installation, historical fabric and garment design and photography, as well as traditional paintings from world famous artists such as Rembrandt all displayed in the City’s galleries and museums.

The world’s largest festival of arts takes over the city of Edinburgh for August. From internationally famous artists to the unknown, and everything in between, you can enjoy theatre,  comedy, dance, circus, cabaret, children's shows, physical theatre, musicals, opera, music, spoken word, exhibitions and events. Performances and exhibitions take place in venues across the city.

3rd – 25th August – The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

An iconic sight set in the spectacular grounds of Edinburgh Castle displaying music, dance and precision military display. This year the event is celebrating ‘The Sky's the Limit', embracing Scotland's Year of Young People with performers from across the globe.

11th-27th August – Edinburgh International Book Festival

With over 800 events, Edinburgh’s International Book Festival has something for everyone, including a programme of great events for children and young adults.
