Dublin really is the city that never sleeps. With flights from Newquay to Dublin departing five times a week during the winter and daily in the summer with Aerlingus, more and more people are visiting the Irish capital.
Whilst many will spend their break wandering through the streets of the city and enjoying the bars, shops and restaurants that Dublin is famous for, there are also plenty of events on during 2019 that you can base your trip around.
Forbidden Fruit Music Festival – 1-3rd June
Sometimes festivals can be difficult to get to – you have to pay for car parking, sit in traffic for hours to get on and off site – so why not fly to one? Forbidden Fruit’s line up for 2019 includes Elbow, Skepta, Jon Hopkins, First Aid Kit and Spiritualized, with many more to be announced.
It takes place in the grounds of the Irish Museum of Modern Art and is just 15 minutes from Dublin centre, so you can take a few more days, enjoy a festival and a have break in one of Europe’s most cultural cities.
Taste of Dublin – 13-16th June
Dubbed the ‘Ultimate Foodie Festival’, the Taste of Dublin attracts thousands of visitors over the weekend. With hundreds of exhibitors offering the best of Irish produce and tasting menus from some of the city’s hottest chefs, it’s a great way to experience the Dublin food scene. Tickets are from €17.50.
Feile Nasc Folk and Traditional Music Festival – 25th May
A family friendly festival, Feile Nasc celebrates the best of Irish folk music, both new and established. Taking place in the city’s Marlay Park, the festival not only showcases Ireland’s best folk music, it also gives you the opportunity to enjoy local food and tipples in beautiful parkland surroundings. Tickets from €30.
Dublin Horse Show – 7-11th August
Dublin Horse Show is one of Ireland’s biggest events and is something of an institution, running for over 150 years. Whether your interest lies with show horses, dressage or show jumping , this show lets you see the crème de la crème from Ireland and around the world.
And if your idea of a horse event makes you think of dressing up and having a day at the races, Ladies Day is held on the Thursday and is your opportunity to shine as much as the show horses! Last year’s best dressed lady won a €10,000 prize and the best dressed gentleman won a made-to-measure suit.
