Unique Icelandic Adventure Takes off from Newquay

Super Break Launches Arctic Experience with Exclusive Flights to Akureryri, Iceland

Back to Press releases

South West holidaymakers are being invited to enjoy a one-of-a-kind Incredible Icelandic adventure, with the launch of exclusive flights to Akureyri in North Iceland.

Super Break, the short break specialist, has created a unique and brand-new chartered service to Iceland’s exciting second city, departing from Cornwall Airport Newquay on 11th January 2019.

The three-night short break is expected to go straight to the top of the South West’s travel bucket list, and includes a host of epic experiences including the chance to visit your first volcano, embark on your first lava walk and indulge in your first beer spa experience. For memories that will last a lifetime, a spectacular Northern Lights tour is included in the price of every break.

Super Break trips to Akureyri also include a Lake Myvatn Adventure – Land of Fire and Ice Tour, which includes the chance to see the region’s many magical terrains, the Goddafoss Waterfall, the boiling mud pools of Namafjall and a stop at Vogafjos working farm. There is also the opportunity to visit Myvatn Nature Baths – the ‘Blue Lagoon of the North’ or take part in a Snowmobiling Experience (extra charge applies).

Holidaymakers can choose from a huge variety of additional action-packed activities to create the perfect short break:

· Whale watching - head out to Eeyjafjörður with excellent chances to see the resident humpback whales, harbour porpoises and dolphins

· Icelandic horse riding where you can ride across coasts and into the scenic mountains

· Lofthellir Ice Cave Winter Challenge - a unique lava cave filled with ice formations, stalagmites and sculptures.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of the launch of Super Break’s first ever chartered flight service from Cornwall Airport Newquay, which is set to depart to Seville, London Planet’s #1 city to visit next year, in March 2018 and which went on sale in October.

Managing Director at Cornwall Airport Newquay, Al Titterington, welcomed this latest announcement by Super Break: “We’re delighted to be building our partnership with Super Break who are launching this second charter holiday from Cornwall, just weeks after announcing they would operate a Seville charter in March 2018. With Iceland’s popularity still soaring, there is no doubt that this opportunity to fly direct from Cornwall Airport Newquay will be incredibly popular.”

Katherine Scott from Super Break said: “At Super Break we take pride in selecting the very best travel experiences for UK holidaymakers to enjoy during a short break. We’ve pulled out all the stops to deliver our South West customers with brand new exclusive flights to both Seville and now to Iceland’s Arctic North. From lava walks to some of the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights, adventure really does await those heading to Akureyri.”

Inga Hlín Pálsdóttir the Director of Visit Iceland said: “We are very excited about the introduction of this direct flight to Akureyri.  Iceland and its different regions are exciting to explore, especially during the wintertime. The North of Iceland has everything from breathtaking nature, rich cultural life and fantastic restaurants and accommodation options so holidaymakers can look forward to an epic experience, whatever their interests.”
