Following on from Friday’s announcement, Eastern Airways has today announced that they will also be operating a second new route from Cornwall Airport Newquay to Leeds Bradford. The route will commence on 9th July 2020 and will operate daily Monday to Friday, joining their 3 times weekly operation to Teesside International Airport. A further Sunday service is due to be added from late July.
The route between Cornwall and Yorkshire has been a popular connection for many years and there will be many that will welcome the news of its reinstatement following the loss of the Flybe service when the company collapsed in March. Flights will take just over an hour, saving a road journey time of almost 7-hours.
Pete Downes, Managing Director, Cornwall Airport Newquay, commented, “This announcement by Eastern Airways of a second new route to Cornwall Airport Newquay is fantastic news. It demonstrates a real vote of confidence in our region, and of the potential for domestic air travel to begin its recovery. With flights every weekday, the schedule will cater well for both business and leisure passengers.”
Roger Hage, Eastern Airways’ General Manager Commercial & Operations, said: “As a UK regional airline, our business is to connect the various business and tourism sectors which are vital to the economic recovery of the UK. We’re extremely pleased to serve Newquay re-establishing a link from Leeds Bradford as a time when UK travel begins to return for the summer peak. Our service will save valuable
travel time connecting the Cornish coast with Yorkshire.”
