Cornwall Airport Newquay has just released its most recent passenger figures and Cornwall’s local Airport is still flying high. Passenger numbers released for June show an increase of 20% over June last year, with 50,993 people using the Airport.

The impressive June figures are not in isolation either, May saw a 21% month on month jump in figures and April was a whopping 39% up on 2016, so overall numbers are up 26% for the first quarter of the financial year.

Al Titterington, Managing Director at Cornwall Airport Newquay commented: “I’d take 26% growth in any circumstances and be happy with our start to the summer season, but when you consider that is on top of over 50% growth in the last financial year, a year when we were the fastest growing Airport in the UK, then it really starts to feel like our efforts are paying off.

“Despite a more challenging operating environment our business strategy remains the same, to continue to expand our route network and increase our year-round services and we’ll continue to work to strengthen our relationships with our airline partners in an attempt to keep achieving these results.”

Geoff Brown, Cabinet Member for Transport at Cornwall Council added: “This is great news and a huge tribute to the dedication and hard work of the Airport team. Not only has the Council been able to lift the passenger surcharge but we have also reduced the levy paid to maintain the Airport operations. In addition to the benefits to residents travelling away, Cornwall Airport Newquay also attracts significant tourism business in to Cornwall which helps generate significant growth in the local economy.”
