Cornwall Airport Newquay proudly announces a series of remarkable achievements, solidifying its position as the fastest growing regional airport in the UK.

With a commitment to enhancing connectivity and delivering exceptional passenger experiences, Cornwall Airport Newquay has seen tremendous success over the past year. Serving as a gateway to the world, the airport has expanded its offerings and established itself as a vital link between Cornwall and an increasing number of international destinations.

At present, the airport is thrilled to report the operation of nine airlines, serving a network of 19 destinations. Among these, the top performing routes include Alicante, Malaga, Faro, London, and Manchester, which have captured the hearts of travellers seeking exciting and convenient travel options.

Sam O’Dwyer, Managing Director of Cornwall Airport Newquay, expressed her excitement about the airport’s progress stating, “The achievements we have witnessed are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire team. Cornwall Airport Newquay has evolved into a key player in the aviation landscape, providing a range of exciting travel opportunities for both leisure and business travellers.”

The airport has rapidly become the fastest growing regional airport in the UK, recording impressive growth in passenger numbers and routes. Since 2022, Cornwall Airport Newquay has proudly introduced seven new routes, further enhancing its connectivity and appeal. Additionally, the airport’s commitment to excellence is evident in its consistently growing passenger numbers, which have surpassed expectations.

In 2019, Cornwall Airport Newquay experienced its busiest summer on record, welcoming approximately 460,000 passengers. As the world rebounds from the challenges posed by the pandemic, the airport is poised to shatter its previous records. Forecasts for this year show passenger numbers almost back to pre-pandemic levels, reflecting the renewed enthusiasm for travel and the airport’s compelling offerings.

One of the most noteworthy accomplishments is the airport’s triumph over its pre-pandemic status, now boasting more airlines than ever before. This growth is indicative of Cornwall Airport Newquay’s commitment to expanding its offerings and nurturing strategic partnerships within the aviation industry.

Passenger numbers speak for themselves: in June 2022, the airport processed 26,382 passengers, whilst in June 2023, this number surged to 47,396 – representing an impressive 80% increase.  In July 2023 around 57,000 passengers passed through the airport, back in line with the 2019 passenger volumes for the first time since the pandemic. These figures underscore the airport’s rapid expansion and recovery, and the growing appeal of the new services.

With an offering of seven international destinations, Cornwall Airport Newquay plays a pivotal role in connecting Cornwall with Europe. The airport’s collaboration with local travel trade to create enticing travel packages, particularly for destinations like Alicante, Faro, and Malaga, has resonated with travellers seeking sun-soaked escapes and golfing adventures.

The airport’s partnership with Aer Lingus has further elevated its stature by providing travellers with seamless access to North America. Through a convenient one-stop connection in Dublin, passengers can clear US customs before arriving stateside, avoiding lengthy immigration queues stateside.

As Cornwall Airport Newquay continues to break barriers and redefine its role in the aviation industry, it is clear that under the leadership of Sam O’Dwyer, supported by her team, the airport’s trajectory is one of unparalleled growth, innovation, and excellence.
