Explore the summer destinations you can jet to straight from your doorstep.

Back to Blog

There’s no better way to wash those January blues away than to book a holiday. Imagine warm air rushing to greet your face as you touch down, the smell of sun cream, the taste of ice cold cocktails and daydreams of reading in the basking sun.

All this is achievable straight from your doorstep; here are four destinations you can visit direct from Cornwall Airport Newquay this summer.

Alicante, Spain

You can reach Alicante all year round from Cornwall Airport Newquay. This slice of Spain’s south eastern Costa Blanca is home to a bright old town, filled with narrow streets and coloured houses. With an abundance of quaint shops to explore, exotic tapas restaurants and a bar or two serving delicious sangria, you’re not short of things to do in Alicante’s old town.

If water sports is more your thing, Alicante’s blue flag beaches offer some great spots to recharge your batteries or release some adrenalin. Windsurfing and Kitesurfing are particularly popular in this region of Spain; you’ll also find a variety of boat tours and snorkelling opportunities for those who enjoy spending their holidays in the water.

Flights to Alicante run twice a week from Cornwall Airport Newquay with Ryanair, all year round.

Faro, Portugal

One of Europe’s most beautiful destinations, Portugal’s Algarve region is closer to Cornwall than you might think. With direct flights linking the Duchy to Faro in less than 3 hours, it’s the perfect summer escape for the whole family. The city itself boasts a rich cultural vibe, with ancient walls, a Gothic cathedral and cobbled streets. You’ll find quaint bars and restaurants in abundance, and the charm of the region will easily win you over.

One of the most popular things to do is take a boat trip to the small islands and caves that sit just outside the Algarve region. The Benagil Cave tour is a particular highlight, showcasing the incredible sea cave that this small fishing village is famed for. One thing the region isn’t short of is beaches, you’ll find plenty to lie on in the sunshine, if a dreamy, relaxing holiday is more your thing.

Direct flights between Cornwall Airport Newquay and Faro operate twice a week between March and October, with Ryanair.

The Channel Islands

Situated between the UK and France, the Channel Islands are a haven perfect to escape to over the summer months. A Paradise for keen walkers, the islands are home to miles of coastline worth exploring on foot. You’ll find some of the freshest seafood on the islands of Jersey and Guernsey; enjoy tucking into it after a day of exploring the cliffs and coves which you’ll find in abundance across both islands.

Alongside coastal walks, you’ll find award-winning beaches scattered across this archipelago, a rich history and delicious produce such as ice cream and clotted cream that are synonymous with the Channel Islands. Known as the sunniest place in the British Isles, Flybe flies direct from Cornwall Airport Newquay to the Channel Islands between June and August.

Copenhagen, Denmark

The summer months are warm and pleasant in Copenhagen, making is a great time to explore the city. This capital is buzzing with rich history, modern architecture and an impressive dining scene, giving you endless options of how to spend your time here. A popular place to spend a sunny day, Nyhavn has a plethora of outdoor cafes surrounding its picturesque canal. You can marvel at the brightly coloured houses scattered down the canal, with the oldest one dating back to 1681.
