Alert:

Please bear with us as we undergo some exciting changes in the departures area. We’re pleased to announce that a brand new Café and Retail offering is on its way - opening May 2024.

Cold food options will be available during this time. Pasties from the Check-in Café are available to take through Security.

Tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks will remain available in departures and the Airside Bar is open.

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing works, our Executive Lounge will remain closed.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this period of transformation. Rest assured; these changes are aimed at enhancing your overall airport experience.

Flying to Cornwall…and how to get around once you’ve arrived

Getting to Cornwall has never been easier, with flights from airports throughout the UK and Europe, ensuring that you spend less time travelling and more time on the beach.

Back to Blog

When you think about booking a holiday the travel time can often sway your decision. Driving or taking the train to Cornwall can take a considerable amount of time, particularly if you only have a short weekend away or a car full of kids to entertain!

Luckily getting to Cornwall has never been easier, with flights from airports throughout the UK and Europe that can ensure that you spend less time travelling and more time on the beach.

Whether you are planning next year’s summer holiday or looking to get away for a few days during the winter, Cornwall Airport Newquay can offer you a travelling time of just over an hour from many regional Airports in the UK and Ireland.

Flying from London Heathrow, Manchester, Leeds Bradford, Southend and Dublin all year round, Flybe also offers flights from Airports including Edinburgh, Birmingham, Cork and Liverpool during the summer months.

Located just 10 miles from Newquay itself, it’s a short bus or taxi ride into town. While you can make your entire holiday Newquay-based, there are a host of different options for getting around if you do wish to see more of the county.

Hire Car

The Airport has two car-hire companies onsite, so you can collect your car from Europcar or Hertz, load up your luggage and be on your way within minutes of getting off the plane.

If you’ve hired a car, the road links make most places in the county accessible within a fairly short space of time – although it is sometimes more enjoyable to lose yourself on the winding roads and discover new places.

Always be aware that roads can be tight (we see some great photos every year of cars/vans/lorries/buses that get stuck trying to get past one another or through tight spots!) and remember plenty of change for beach parking.

Bike

Cornwall is growing in popularity with cyclists and every year we see more and more tourists using bikes for some, if not all, of their holiday transportation. Bikes can be taken on flights on a ‘stand-by’ basis (see more at Flybe.com/baggage) but can be easily hired whilst on holiday and make for a great way to see more of the county. You can even have your bikes delivered directly to the Airport ready for your arrival by Go By Cycle

If you like accessible off-road cycling, Cornwall has a number of old railway lines that now act as cycle paths. At its narrowest point, the county is only 11 miles wide and this can be ridden on the Portreath to Devoran Coast to Coast trail. There is also the incredibly popular Camel Trail, running from Padstow to Wenford Bridge via Wadebridge and Bodmin.

Bus

First Kernow operate the A5 between Newquay and Padstow, stopping at Cornwall Airport Newquay. From Newquay, you can catch a bus to local towns, attractions and beaches, including the County’s capital, Truro, where the main bus station offers services to all parts of Cornwall.

Walk

The opportunities to walk throughout Cornwall are many and varied. From the world-famous coastal walks to pathways leading you through moors and woodlands, the county offers  something for everyone. Many visitors find themselves walking sections of the 300-mile Southwest coastal path, which is split into 52 walks. Whether you decide to travel with your belongings and walk from town to village or use public transport to start a new section each day, the views make for an unforgettable holiday.
