A Weekend in Frankfurt

If visiting a new city appeals to you, a weekend away in Frankfurt might be just the ticket.

Back to Blog

With Ryanair flying from Cornwall Airport Newquay to Frankfurt Hahn Airport in less than 2 hours, it really is a great opportunity to visit the German city of Frankfurt.

Frankfurt is a just bus journey away from the Airport and offers something for every type of traveller, whether you are after art and culture or great nights out and good food.

Here are some of our top picks:

Staedel Museum

The museum holds a huge collection of European art, with works by the likes of Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, Sandro Botticelli and Jan Vermeer. Often recommended by visitors to the city as a must-do, it is easy to while away an afternoon or even a day in this fantastic museum.

Berger Strasse

Often toted as one of those great areas that many tourists miss, Berger Street gives you a feel for urban Germany, with shopping, bars, restaurants and entertainment. At the weekends there are often markets and at night the area really comes alive!

The Old City

This part of the city was largely destroyed in World War II, but the old town has been lovingly reconstructed according to the original blueprints, with works due to finish ready for a visit in 2018. The square in which the Romer – the city hall – is based is often photographed and is a great place to wander around, soaking up traditional German timber frame architecture.

Klassikstadt

If you love cars you may have found heaven at Klassikstadt. The collection holds around 400 classic cars, as well as businesses and workshops that are involved in the automotive business – including showrooms for Lamborghini, McLaren and Aston Martin. The International Motor Show, the largest motor show in the world, is also held in Frankfurt every other year, so this is a city that loves its cars.

PalmenGarten

PalmenGarten Botanical gardens cover 50 acres in the middle of Frankfurt, making it a great escape from the bustling city. With palm houses and greenhouses holding all sorts of tropical plants, it is spectacular throughout the year. It is also a great place for the whole family, with lots to interest those of all ages.

If you want to get out of the city…

Both Frankfurt and Frankfurt Hahn Airport are located within a short distance of some of the most lovely scenery in all of Germany. The Mosel Valley sits around an hour away from the Airport and shows a very different side of Germany to Frankfurt city, with rolling hills and castles and vineyards dotted along the winding river.

Take a river cruise, spend the day hiking or simply drive from village to village, sampling the local wines and experiencing the laid back atmosphere.

Flights available to book from www.ryanair.com, flights between March and October 2018.
